TUNKWA LAKE- Horse Campsite
Today I woke up at 7am to the sound of pouring rain…a sound that made my heart sink! Here I am planning a weekend away camping with my horses and it looks like Fall is pulling a fast one on me…But who knows, this is Beautiful British Columbia…the province of 4 seasons in one week, so by Friday we could be having another heat wave…fingers crossed!!
But apart from the rain, Fall can be a great time to take your horses camping- the heat is subsiding, and the with the fall colours, the countryside will soon be looking beautiful dressed in its red & gold colours.
So as the last day of August draws to a close, here is the last post about trail riding and camping with horses…

TUNKWA LAKE
July 2008– Kamloops Chapter of Back Country Horsemen BC just completed 10 new Corrals at the campsite at Leighton Lake next to Tunkwa Lake in Kamloops ,Merritt area not far from Logan Lake. Below is a picture of the new corrals.
Tunkwa Lake is one of British Columbia’s premier fly fishing destinations. Picturesque Tunkwa Lake is world famous for its extra large Kamloops Rainbow trout. And, because of the abundance and size of these trout, Tunkwa Lake was chosen as a venue lake for the 1993 World Fly Fishing Championships.
Located in the sunny southern interior Thompson Nicola region of British Columbia, a short drive from Kamloops and Logan Lake, and only a 3-hour drive from Vancouver, BC,
There are numerous other good fishing lakes in the area. The closest (only a five-minute drive) is Leighton Lake with fish up to six pounds. This lake has some restrictions: single barbless hook, bait ban, 10-hp motors and a two fish limit.
The best thing about these lakes is the riding. Leighton Lake has great campsites. At the far end of the campsite is a large tree covered corral for your equine friends.
How to Find Campsite:
